MY VERY OWN WEDDING
In June 2023, after seven years of photographing weddings, it was my turn to be the bride. After all those years of walking down aisles with my cameras, I exchanged those cameras for a bouquet and my dad’s arm. This was by far the most special and surreal one yet. My husband and I wanted our wedding to be an intimate celebration that was surrounded by the people that meant the most to us. By keeping our guest list to 50 people, we were able to soak in every moment in a deeply personal way. We got married at the beautiful Guestlands, where we had the essence of Italy, but only had to travel as far as Arcadia, Sydney. It felt like a hidden European escape that was just for us.
We got married on the 30th of June and despite being the middle of winter, the crisp air was met with sunshine and that beautiful winter warmth you just want to bask in. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day if we tried! Poppies, my absolute favourite flowers, painted our ceremony in bursts of vibrant colour, creating the meadow-like magic I had always envisioned. Ebony, our florist, exceeded every expectation. Bees danced around the flowers throughout the ceremony in a golden hum— thankfully no one got stung!
One of my favourite, yet more spontaneous moments of the day was surprising my dad, nan and pop with a first look before the ceremony. Seeing the look on my Pop’s face is something I’ll cherish forever.
I always tell my couples that they’ll never regret investing in their photographer — and now, I know this on an even deeper level. Your wedding day is something that you dream about and plan for so much longer than it actually lasts. I made sure to be fully present, taking those few extra seconds in our ceremony to soak in the faces of our guests, to hug my parents a little tighter thanking them for everything, to keep my husband close beside me. And yet, despite all of that, the day still went incredibly fast.
I would do anything to relive it all over again. Thanks to the incredible team we entrusted with our memories, I can. Every image and every frame holds a piece of the day that will never fade and I am so grateful for that!
